Longshoremen should finish unloading 6,700 tons of sand contaminated with depleted uranium and lead Tuesday afternoon, said Chad Hyslop, spokesman for the disposal company American Ecology.

The BBC Alabama arrived at the port Saturday afternoon with the 306 containers carrying the contaminated sand from Camp Doha, a U.S. Army base in Kuwait. The sand was packaged in bags designed to transport hazardous waste. (more…)

Republican convention drama in the works?

Wally Edge | April 29, 2008

I was just faxed a copy of a letter from some woman named Charlotte Iserbyt - who is apparently a delegate to the Maine Republican convention. This letter almost makes me wish I were going to the convention!

She does not like John McCain. No, that would be too kind. Let me quote her letter:

“This letter, supported by many delegates to the Republican Convention, is literally about saving the party and the nation from a maniacal neoconservative war monger, who supports a United State presence in Iraq for 100 years, and who is not really even a Republican” (more…)

McCain accused of accepting improper donations from Rothschilds

Daniel Nasaw | April 29, 2008

A US campaign watchdog has accused presumptive Republican president nominee John McCain of violating election laws by accepting campaign contributions from two prominent Londoners.

At issue is a fundraising luncheon held in March at London’s Spencer House, during McCain’s swing through the United Kingdom. An invitation to the event lists Lord Rothschild and Nathaniel Rothschild as hosts, and indicates the event was made possible with their “kind permission”. (more…)

Katie Couric and the Corporate Media Gear Up for Iran Attack

Kurt Nimmo | April 30, 2008

David Martin, “CBS News national security correspondent,” that is to say he reads from a neocon script, reports:

A second American aircraft carrier steamed into the Persian Gulf on Tuesday as the Pentagon ordered military commanders to develop new options for attacking Iran. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that the planning is being driven by what one officer called the “increasingly hostile role” Iran is playing in Iraq — smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops.

Of course, the Pentagon, under the sway of the neocons, has planned to attack Iran for some time. In their charming way, the neocons are simply telling you — via the corporate media with high school sweetheart anchor Katie Couric (see video) reporting — that mass murder shall commence sooner before later. Once again, we have Sec. Def. Gates declaring Iran is killing U.S. soldiers, minus any evidence whatsoever. Even the CIA’s favorite newspaper, the Washington Post, was obliged to report when Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joints Chiefs of Staff, declared “he has no evidence the Iranian government has been sending military equipment and personnel into neighboring Iraq.”

Corn Futures Advance to Record as Weather Delays U.S. Planting

Jae Hur | April 29, 2008

Corn futures in Chicago climbed to a record on supply concerns after a government report showed farmers in the U.S., the world’s biggest producer, had planted only half as much as a year ago because of cold, wet weather.

Microsoft device helps police pluck evidence from cyberscene of crime

Benjamin J. Romano | April 28, 2008

Microsoft has developed a small plug-in device that investigators can use to quickly extract forensic data from computers that may have been used in crimes.

The COFEE, which stands for Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor, is a USB “thumb drive” that was quietly distributed to a handful of law-enforcement agencies last June. Microsoft General Counsel Brad Smith described its use to the 350 law-enforcement experts attending a company conference Monday.

The device contains 150 commands that can dramatically cut the time it takes to gather digital evidence, which is becoming more important in real-world crime, as well as cybercrime. It can decrypt passwords and analyze a computer’s Internet activity, as well as data stored in the computer.

Microsoft server crash nearly causes 800-plane pile-up

Matthew Broersma | September 21, 2004

A major breakdown in Southern California’s air traffic control system last week was partly due to a “design anomaly” in the way Microsoft Windows servers were integrated into the system, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

Solving global warming with giant vacuums
The technology works, but it would require millions of carbon dioxide filters across the planet at a cost of trillions of dollars a year.

Alan Zarembo | April 29, 2008

Here’s a simple solution to global warming: vacuum carbon dioxide out of the air.

Klaus Lackner, a physicist at Columbia University, said placing enough carbon filters around the planet could reel the world’s atmosphere back toward the 18th century, like a climatic time machine.

After a decade of work, his shower-sized prototype whirs away inside a Tucson warehouse, each day capturing about 10 pounds of the heat-trapping greenhouse gas as air wafts through it.

Only a few billion tons to go.

Did CIA ‘Photoshop’ Syrian military pics?

Los Angeles Times | April 29, 2008

Professor William Beeman at the University of Minnesota passed along a note today from “a colleague with a U.S. security clearance” about the mysterious Syrian site targeted in a Sept. 6 Israeli airstrike.

The note raises more questions about the evidence shown last week by U.S. intelligence officials to lawmakers in the House and Senate.

Mainstream Media Will Be Complicit in Next Terrorist Attacks

Devvy Kidd | April 29, 2008

On April 24, 2008, The Arizona-Republic, published a hit piece on Sen. Karen Johnson, who currently serves in the Arizona State Legislature. This piece of drivel is titled, ‘Drinking the 9/11 Kool-Aid.’ As you can see by reading it, the author believes that no elected official should question any aspect of the Bush Administration’s fairy tale of the events of September 11, 2001. This has been the prevailing attitude of the so-called mainstream media, including cable “news” networks since that day. Anyone questioning the hoax perpetrated on the American people is a Kool-Aid drinker or worse.

Wright Says U.S. Government Capable Of Creating AIDS Virus

Paul Joseph Watson | April 29, 2008

Barack Obama’s outspoken pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., defended his statements accusing the U.S. government of deliberately engineering the AIDS virus as a means of genocide during a National Press Club appearance yesterday by citing the documented history of the U.S. government’s involvement in biological warfare operations against innocent people.

Asked if he stood behind previous statements about the U.S. government deliberately creating AIDS as a means of genocide against black people, Wright responded, “”Have you read Horowitz’ book - Emerging Viruses - AIDS and Ebola?”

Ted Turner: World Needs a ‘Voluntary’ One-Child Policy for the Next Hundred Years

Aaron Dykes | April 29, 2008

Okay, so Ted Turner’s not a people person. But, he has a plan to bring the world’s population down to 2 billion– a figure substantially less than current numbers– that he says would allow for a better standard of living… for everyone.

Though it might be trying for the world to adopt the brutal one-child policy of China, it would, ideally, help humanity to avoid the nightmare cannibalism scenario Turner claims we otherwise face in the wake of global warming.

Global famine? Blame the Fed

Mike Whitney | April 29, 2008

The stakes couldn’t be higher for Ben Bernanke. If the Fed chief decides to lower rates at the end of April, he could be condemning millions of people to a death by starvation.

The situation is that serious. Food riots have broken out across the globe destabilizing large parts of the developing world. China is experiencing double-digit inflation. Indonesia, Vietnam and India have imposed controls over rice exports. Wheat, corn and soya are at record highs and threatening to go higher still. Commodities are up across the board. The World Food Program is warning of widespread famine if the West doesn’t provide emergency humanitarian relief.
