Native Hawaiians blockade historic palace

CNN | May 1, 2008

A group of native Hawaiians occupied the grounds of the old Hawaiian monarchy’s royal residence Wednesday, vowing to stay and do the business of the kingdom’s government.

“It is through a greater realm than ours” that the group took this action, said Mahealani Kahau, elected leader of the group, called Hawaiian Kingdom Government. “Today and every day, we will be here to assume our role.”

Bill Moyer’s Hypocrisy - A Crushing Disappointmen

Dick Eastmen | May 01, 2008

Bill Moyers, his son John, and their moneyed sidekicks, the Schumann brothers, hate the free market with intemperate ferocity, as the quote above suggests. They spend millions inherited from an IBM founder and a president of the General Motors Acceptance Corporation to tear down America’s free market economy. They have their hands in many pies. Here are some.

Triple roles: journalist, advocate, financier.

The White House said Wednesday that President Bush has paid a price for the “Mission Accomplished” banner that was flown in triumph five years ago but later became a symbol of U.S. misjudgments and mistakes in the long and costly war in Iraq.

Big Business, BIG Winner at SPP Summit

Dana Gabriel | April 30, 2008

The besieged Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America received a renewed commitment from all three NAFTA leaders at the recent summit in New Orleans. This is a much needed boast for the North American Union agenda that is seen as widely unpopular. There is little doubt that big business is a driving force behind deeper continental integration. The latest SPP Summit reaffirmed that corporate interests will continue to further dominate this process. The corporate agenda is shaping policy, and as their profits increase, they gain more control over our lives.

Global Cooling Slows Global Warming

Global Warming Truth Movement | May 1, 2008

This appears to be a cover to me. Scientists are now predicting a cooling period over the next ten years. This natural cooling period will counter the man-made warming. Do you see the covering of all the bases that is going on here? Because the earth is beginning to go into a cooling period, scientists hoping to hold onto their global warming grants are now beginning to cover their asses.

Second carrier group deployed to Gulf as U.S. approves plans for Iran counterstrike

World Tribune | May 1, 2008

The U.S. military has drafted and won approval for attack plans in response to an Iran attack.

Western diplomatic sources said the U.S. military’s Central Command has submitted plans for an air and naval strike on Iran. The sources said the plan envisioned escalating tensions that would peak with an Iranian-inspired insurgency strike against U.S. military assets in the Gulf.

Was 10:45 a.m. the Originally Planned Demolition Time of WTC 7?

9/11 Blogger | May 1, 2008

At 11:07 a.m. in the morning of September 11, 2001, a CNN correspondent in New York reported that a third tower had possibly collapsed. While this report was incorrect, it is interesting to note that the reporter’s description could have applied to World Trade Center Building 7. This huge skyscraper was indeed the third tower to collapse on 9/11. However it did not come down until late in the afternoon, more than six hours after this report.

Paul No. 1 on Amazon.com

CNN | April 30, 2008

Ron Paul’s loyal supporters helped him set campaign fundraising records and capture more delegates during his presidential run than some of his high-profile Republican rivals. They even managed to briefly shut down Nevada’s GOP convention earlier this month over a rules change controversy.

Now they’ve taken his latest book to the top of the Amazon.com bestseller list.

Garrison Keillor - “Remember when it was fun to fly?”

Remember when it was fun to fly?
As we inched through the airport security line, I seemed to be the only one grinding my teeth. Would anyone have defended me if I’d spoken up to the shirts?

Garrison Keillor | April 30, 2008

A cabdriver picked me up outside the Waffle House in Little Rock, Ark., last Sunday and said so sweetly, “I hope you enjoyed your breakfast” — elongating the “joy” slightly and slurring the k in “breakfast” — and I said yes, but honestly, I don’t really associate breakfast with enjoyment. It’s chow. It’s a standardized meal meant to fortify you for the day’s maneuvers and you square your shoulders and sit down and eat it. This particular breakfast was grits, eggs over easy, country ham, and biscuits with gravy, a meal that will fuel you right through 5 o’clock, but enjoyment?

Dollar Rises to Five-Week High on Bets Fed May Stop Rate Cuts

Ye Xie and Anchalee Worrachate | May 1, 2008

The dollar rose to the highest level in five weeks against the euro on speculation the Federal Reserve may stop reducing borrowing costs.

The currency increased versus the Swiss franc and Swedish krona a day after the Fed cut by a quarter-percentage point to 2 percent and said previous decreases were “substantial.” The pound increased to the highest level in more than a month against the euro as the Bank of England said the worst of the credit crisis in the U.K. may be over.
